Yep, that's right! I'm pregnant! And here is the first picture of our little bean... "Hurley-David Jr. -- 32 weeks before birth." -- GIMP, Sept 1st, 2006.
I felt like a break from all those motherhood drawings I've been doing (here and here), so I thought I would return to this week's Illo Friday topic for another go at that monster theme. This is from a doodle I was doing in my sketchbook. Pen, Ink, & GIMP. And the original sketch... Pen & Ink Wash
Maybe this is just why I do so many B&W images... I think I prefer the B&W sketch over the colorized one. Then again, I am still learning how to use GIMP to add color/depth to my drawings. Maybe when I get better at that, I will like those versions of my drawings more.
Ugh. This took me all freakin day! I used this project to learn how to do vector drawings. This is my first one ever! I also had to learn several features on GIMP I had never tried before, such as creating patterns (which wasn't fun on the Mac.)
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this week's Illo-Friday submission. I call him "Tattoo Man."
I plan on putting this onto some Cafe Press stuff, but I am working on a caption. Haven't found the right one yet. I intended it to be about knitting, but it could be something else.
Back in 2001, I wrote this children's story about an alien. But I just couldn't find the right alien character illustration for my story. I finally abandoned the project after several months, but I took it up again today. This is how my main character, Allaboo, looked when I left him...
Pen and GIMP.
Here are some old sketches, new sketches, and a possible new version of my Allaboo...
I found this thing called Amazing Circles which is basically a technique of photo manipulation that is so popular on the internet that there are entire clubs that create these all the time. I read the how to and thought I'd give it a shot. Thing is, mine are done in GIMP instead of Photoshop, so it's not quite as pretty, plus, I haven't yet figured out how to get that reflective/translucence thing down yet that makes the really good ones look totally 3D. But I still had fun. Check out these three that I made.
This one (left) is from some snowy branches by our house. I love the delicacy of some of the lines, but the image looks very flat to me. Click here for the original image.
This one (right) is a close up of a display at the Bellagio in Vegas. I love the way that most of it looks like some kind of metallic icing. But the white part is an error of some kind. Not sure what happened. Click here for the original image.
This one (left) is looking up inside a building with a skylight. I tried really hard to make this one more 3D. It's my fave of the 3, but I am not there yet.
I am kind of a Jane-of-all-trades. I graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film. I work as a videographer, salsa instructor, and artist. I am also an aspiring writer, and especially love writing children's stories and on topics related to film.
