Illo Friday - Tea (2nd Submission)

Tea anyone?

I was having fun with GIMP and created this from a little tea sketch I did this morning. I think I might need to make some kitchen curtains! Ha!

Annika

Does it say something about me that my faces often come out angry looking? Is it my psychology or my lack of talent? Here Annika, my niece from Idaho, is really bored and concentrating, but to me she looks angry. I guess boredom and concentration do account for a little bit of a sourpuss. Sorry Annika!

Tag! You're it!

My nephew from Idaho playing chase with a girl he just met. Remember how easy (and how hard) it was to just pick up with someone and begin playing with no need for any introductions?

Don't care much for the one on the left, but I like the movement in the one on the right.

Amazing Circles

I found this thing called Amazing Circles which is basically a technique of photo manipulation that is so popular on the internet that there are entire clubs that create these all the time. I read the how to and thought I'd give it a shot. Thing is, mine are done in GIMP instead of Photoshop, so it's not quite as pretty, plus, I haven't yet figured out how to get that reflective/translucence thing down yet that makes the really good ones look totally 3D. But I still had fun. Check out these three that I made.

This one (left) is from some snowy branches by our house. I love the delicacy of some of the lines, but the image looks very flat to me.

This one (right) is a close up of a display at the Bellagio in Vegas. I love the way that most of it looks like some kind of metallic icing. But the white part is an error of some kind. Not sure what happened.

This one (left) is looking up inside a building with a skylight. I tried really hard to make this one more 3D. It's my fave of the 3, but I am not there yet.

Ah well. Fun to experiement.

Alexandra

I am badly needing to get back into a creative habit. So I have decided to do at least 1 sketch a day, with hopefully some longer projects on less busy days. My sketch today is Alexandra, my niece in Miami. Isn't she sweet? She was right on the cusp of walking when we were visiting in January. I bet she's a walker by now. But here she is, immortalized on the internet as a crawler. :)

Mardi Gras Masquerade

Having a Mardi Gras party on Saturday. Still haven't figured out how to piece my costume together even though I think I have all the parts. I haven't figured out what I am going to serve at the party either, or how I am going to decorate the place. Not much time left. So... it's on the brain, and this image popped in for obvious reasons. I like how the mask and eyes are more clearly defined than the rest of the face. Everything else sort of fades into the background. We are ghosts behind the masks that we show to the world. And this girl looks right at you as if to say, "You have no idea who I really am."

Illo Friday - Song

Well I really wanted to be involved in the IF project, so I just quickly sketched this just to have something done. It's a bit rushed. It's a sketch of a lovely photo taken by some pro-photo friends at our wedding in October. I have Faroese heritage, and according to tradition a song is written about the bride and groom and sung by the guests on their wedding day. This is my husband and me standing on the left as my niece, sister, uncle, cousin, aunt, and mom sing 'our song'.

A New Blog!

Well, I decided I needed a separate space for any visual art I wish to share with you guys. So here we are! I plan on putting up sketches, participating in Illustration Fridays, and hopefully posting some video/film experiments here, as well as any other experiments with visual media. So keep your eyes peeled!
