Velbastaður House

My uncle's house in Velbastaður, Faroe Islands - Pen & Color Pencil - 2004.

That's not a weird mistake in my drawing of their roof. As do many houses in the Faroes, this one has grass on the roof. In fact I took some pictures this same summer of the guy across the street mowing his roof!

Old Sketchbook

So I came across a few old sketchbooks today, and I thought I would put some of the sketches up. Here are the first sketches I did when I was learning my pen & ink wash technique. I have included the best 13 sketches from this particular notebook.

Dawn at Ft Lauderdale

Pen & Ink Wash.

Been making some handmade cards today. Drew some flowers for some sympathy cards (I will put those on later), and this one for a
friend who is moving to California on Monday. I mounted each image onto some handmade paper. They look lovely. Maybe I should make my own cards more often!

I am finding that drawings such as these that contain very strict lines (walls, buildings, etc.) don't seem to work well with my current style of drawing. So this wall is a little warpy. Ah well. Rather that then lose my loose, sketchy style that I am developing.

Illo Friday - Tattoo

GIMP.

Ugh. This took me all freakin day! I used this project to learn how to do vector drawings. This is my first one ever! I also had to learn several features on GIMP I had never tried before, such as creating patterns (which wasn't fun on the Mac.)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this week's Illo-Friday submission. I call him "Tattoo Man."

Bodi in the Jungle

Our friends' baby, Bowen - Pen & Ink Wash.

The background is there because I have had a Jungle Book song stuck in my head for the past several hours. You know the one.... "Ooh bee dooo/ I wanna be like you-hoo-hoo/ I wanna walk like you/ talk like you/ too/ you see it's true-oo-oo/ an ape like me (skoobeedoobeedoobee)/ can learn to be/ hu-hoo-oo-man too-oo-oo"

Black Sheep

Pen & GIMP.

I plan on putting this onto some Cafe Press stuff, but I am working on a caption. Haven't found the right one yet. I intended it to be about knitting, but it could be something else.

Hmmm.....

Alien Children's Story Sketches

Back in 2001, I wrote this children's story about an alien. But I just couldn't find the right alien character illustration for my story. I finally abandoned the project after several months, but I took it up again today. This is how my main character, Allaboo, looked when I left him...

Pen and GIMP.

Here are some old sketches, new sketches, and a possible new version of my Allaboo...

Another Flipbook!

Still hard to draw like this, but it's too fun. I think it's so fun because it makes it so simple. It's bare bones. But it makes me wish I had one of those pen things for the computer. Ah heck, I wish I had one of those anyway.

Flipbook! Fun!

Click on the image to see my animation!

I found this site, and couldn't resist giving it a shot even though it is VERY difficult to draw using a little touch pad on a laptop -- so keep that in mind when you are judging my first effort, "Smile and Wave." Some of the other ones on there are much more sophisticated, including my three faves by someone who calls themselves Pinky. They are "Elephant Hunt," "Caught One," and "Mr. Mouse Goes to Work, Part One." Check them out!

Illo Friday - Tea (2nd Submission)

Tea anyone?

I was having fun with GIMP and created this from a little tea sketch I did this morning. I think I might need to make some kitchen curtains! Ha!
